JEFFERSON STARSHIP

Jeffersons Tree of Liberty (The Lab): C

Idealistic musicians once believed a protest song could change the world. Silly fools. Paul Kantner and his out-of-date brethren in this classical rock bands current card apparently still possess that optimism. Longtime Starship fans will regain no Miracles or We Built This City in this assembling of largely traditional, 60s-folk-oriented songs popularized by such giants as the Weavers, Fairport Convention and Phil Ochs. But why listen to Tree of Liberty when the mind-bending originals are promptly available. The one exception, Imagine Redemption, is a winning mashup of love songs by John Lennon and Bob Marley. Thats the one to download. -

Amy MacDonald

This Is the Life (Decca): A

This stunning debut by a 20-year-old Glaswegian folk-rocker is bold, hardiness and defiant. MacDonald is blessed with a strong, husky voice and higher-ranking guitar skills. Shes besides adept at telling a story; every one of these 11 songs could be a hit. The vitriolic Poison Prince disses a pop-star poseur and Footballers Wife sides with the woman, not the immature sports hero. Everything here is download-worthy, merely the fresh, hopeful Lets Start a Band, with its muffled trumpet and operatic flourishes, will leave you awestruck. This is the life-changing album youve been waiting for.

"The next one will bring it back to the start up in a way. It will be a draw more futuristic in terms of yield but a lot more train-of-thought. Maybe when I'm 40 and broke I might amount back, but that all feels a bit bloomers."

Fergie's mother denies pregnancy reports

Singer Fergie's mother has denied media speculation that her daughter is pregnant.
Speaking on Ryan Seacrest's radio show on KIIS FM, Terri Ferguson responded to the baby rumours by saying: "Nope, not at all."
Fergie's mother then added: "Did you see her at the Grammys?", describing her 32-year-old daughter as "skinny, skinny, skinny".
Recent media reports suggested that the singer, real name Stacy Ferguson, had decided to change her wedding date.
However, Terri Ferguson dismissed these reports, saying: "We are not moving up the wedding."
"I think people can't believe people do get married just because they love each other, not because they are pregnant," she said.
